Reopening The Woodend Tennis Club

Following Daniel Andrews announcement on Monday that there would be some easing of the COVID-19 restrictions, we’re pleased to advise that Tennis in Woodend is back, though with some limits.

This is not a return to normal, however tennis is an essential part of many of our lives and a return to tennis is also a return to exercise, an opportunity to reconnect with our friends and an outlet for our mental health.

It is therefore up to us to ensure we maintain a safe and healthy environment by continuing to apply social distancing and good hygiene habits.

Tennis Victoria have created the Return To Tennis Guidelines and we’re implementing these as we reopen the club from tomorrow the 15th of May, with the consent of our lease owner, the Macedon Ranges Shire Council

Victorian Government regulations released on Monday allow Sport and exercise activities to resume if we keep our distance (at least 1.5 metres apart), we are not playing indoors and there are a maximum of 10 people involved. So, what does this mean for tennis in Victoria? Singles and doubles can be played and small group coaching can recommence. Multiple small groups are allowed in large spaces though common sense should be applied to ensure those groups are spaced out across the venue. The clubhouses/rooms will remain closed, however external toilets can remain open as long as hygiene protocols are followed.

Specific to our club and in line with Tennis Victoria recommendations:

Court usage

  • Book-a-court for all bookings. Courts are available for day and night bookings. Only members can book courts. This is critical for us to be able to track who has been at the club if a playing member tests positive.
  • Court usage limited to 1hr bookings, with 30mins between bookings to avoid crossover of players
  • The front gate is to be left closed at all times except when arriving or leaving the courts. The PIN must be entered to open the gate so share it with your group before arriving
  • Nets have been removed on the middle courts 2 and 5 to ensure safe playing distances
  • Book-play-leave – hanging out behind the clubhouse after exercise is not a sporting activity that’s included in the Vic Government regulations and is strongly discouraged within club grounds

Hygiene

  • All players are encouraged to arrive with their own hand sanitiser, however the club has provided hand sanitiser for the use of players at the front gate and the gates used to access courts
  • The external toilets will remain open however we have provided cleaning product and will rely on members to wipe contact surfaces down after using the bathroom
  • We are working with our contracted cleaner to clean all surface areas at the club on a weekly basis

Club coaching

  • Marcus is preparing to recommence from Monday, May 18th and is in contact with all current students to gauge interest
  • Coaching will be in line with the Victorian State Government directives and adhere to the Tennis Vic recommendations
  • Further details will be provided by Marcus to students and their parents
  • Cardio tennis will only recommence once Marcus has determined how to accommodate group sizes of less than 10

Other

  • Concerns and complaints should be sent to via the contact us form on our website. We will reply within 24hrs.

We know that this is still a period of uncertainty for many and we hope that with the reopening of our Tennis Club our members can continue to benefit from its usage.

We look forward to seeing you on the court some time soon.
